TL;DR

  • Backstabs are directional: attacking from behind gives big value, and enemies can do the same to you.
  • Always set facing at end of turn; "do not show your butt" is practical defense.
  • Right-click enemies before committing movement to preview range and avoid blind deaths.
  • Use terrain: obstacles for line control and grass for dodge chance when safe.
  • Backstab builds scale with crit and reposition synergy when available.

Positioning Rules

1) Threat range first, everything else second

  • Before moving, right-click enemies to preview movement and attack reach.
  • Use tactical camera options to reveal hidden angles and line conflicts.

2) End-turn facing is a free save

  • Facing direction directly affects incoming backstab risk.
  • After your final action, set facing toward the biggest immediate threat.

3) Do not over-extend solo

  • Avoid sending one cat deep without support or disengage options.
  • Prefer controlled pull-and-focus lines where enemies enter your prepared angle.

Backstab Angles

How backstab works (simple rule)

Backstab value comes from attacking a target from behind. Their facing and your tile position decide whether the hit becomes high-value.

How to create backstabs intentionally

  1. Flank with faster cats, not your frontline anchor.
  2. Use reposition or turn-forcing tools to open safer attack lines.
  3. If you get backstab and crit synergy, focus priority targets quickly.

Defensive backstab rule

  • Do not expose backline tiles while chasing one aggressive angle.
  • End facing toward nearest threat and close diagonal gaps behind your tank.

Terrain Usage

Use cover and choke points

Obstacles reduce how many enemies can hit you in one cycle. Fight at edges and funnels instead of standing in open tiles.

Tall grass is a defensive tool

Grass tiles can provide meaningful dodge value. If you can end in grass without exposing your backline, take it.

Map interactions matter

The map is part of combat math. Positioning, cover, and tile effects often decide fights before raw DPS does.

Common Misplays

  • Not checking threat range before moving.
  • Ending turn with poor facing direction.
  • Solo diving into center tiles without disengage options.
  • Chasing one backstab while exposing your support line to another threat.
  • Ignoring terrain and fighting in open lanes when safer tiles exist.
